Teller County is timber country on the west side of Pikes Peak. Woodland Park sits on US 24, Divide is where Highway 67 turns south toward the old gold camp of Cripple Creek, the county seat, and Florissant lies beside Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. Homes and cabins set among the trees, often at the end of a single narrow road, are typical here.
We do take work in Teller County, and this page lays out what that means up front. For town-specific details, see Divide, Woodland Park, Cripple Creek and Florissant.
Where We Are Based, Plainly
Dream Ridge works out of Toponas, in Routt County, a long drive north of Teller County. We are not going to pretend otherwise. A quick repair in Woodland Park or a few hours of grading in Divide is better done by a contractor who is already nearby, and if you call us about one, that is what we will tell you.
What we travel for is the substantial job: a fuels reduction or clearing contract on a wooded property, a new access road, or a building site that needs clearing, excavation and drainage done as one project. Batching several jobs on the same property into one visit is the other thing that makes the distance work.
Fire Mitigation in the Trees
Much of Teller County is wildland urban interface, with homes built into continuous forest and served by one way in and out. In 2002 the Hayman Fire burned more than 138,000 acres across Teller, Park, Jefferson and Douglas Counties, and nobody living in these woods needs to be convinced that defensible space matters.
Our fire mitigation and defensible space work goes zone by zone, as the defensible space guide explains: the first few feet around the house, then the ground that would carry fire toward it, then the wider stand of trees. That includes thinning, removing ladder fuels and standing dead trees, handling the slash, and opening up access so an engine can reach the house and get back out.
We do not print grant, rebate or tax-credit amounts, because those programs change. We document the work so you can submit it to whichever program covers your property.
What We Travel for in Teller County
- ✓Fuels reduction, thinning and defensible space on wooded properties
- ✓Land clearing, including standing dead and downed timber
- ✓Access road and driveway construction and improvement for emergency vehicle access
- ✓Site preparation and foundation excavation for new homes
- ✓Grading, drainage and erosion control on sloped lots
- ✓Demolition, debris removal and haul-off
On this kind of ground, land clearing and site preparation usually go together: the trees have to come out before the pad can go in.
Septic in Teller County Goes Through the County
David’s on-site wastewater installer registration is with Routt County, and it stays there.
Teller County has its own onsite wastewater regulations, and septic permitting is handled by Teller County Public Health and Environment, from its office in Divide. So septic is not something we quote in Teller County on the strength of our Routt County registration. If your project includes a septic system, call and describe it, and we will tell you honestly which parts we can help with.
Slopes, Rock and Weather
Building sites here are rarely flat. Sloped lots, shallow rock and runoff all shape how a site is excavated and drained, and a driveway cut into a hillside needs somewhere for the water to go. We plan grading and drainage as part of the job rather than an afterthought.
The season at this elevation is short and the weather changes quickly. You will get a realistic window rather than a promise the forecast will not keep, and we will keep you posted if it shifts.

Common Questions
Do you really take jobs in Teller County?
Yes, larger ones. We are based in Toponas in Routt County, so Teller County is travel work rather than a local service area. Fuels reduction, clearing, access roads and full site packages suit the trip, as do several jobs combined into one visit.
Can you install my septic system in Teller County?
Our installer registration is with Routt County. In Teller County, septic permitting is handled by Teller County Public Health and Environment under the county’s own regulations, so we do not quote septic there on our Routt County registration. Describe your project and we will be clear about what we can do.
Which Teller County towns do you cover?
Woodland Park, Divide, Cripple Creek and Florissant, and the country in between. If your property is near one of them and the job is substantial, give us a call.
Can you make my property safer from wildfire?
Defensible space and fuels reduction are the main reasons we work in Teller County. We work zone by zone around the house and improve access for fire engines, and we document the work for any program you apply to.
