Roads That Have to Work for More Than One Owner
A private road is a different problem from a driveway. More traffic, more vehicles that are heavier than a pickup, more people with an opinion about it, and usually a shared budget. It also has to be passable when it matters most, which around here means during runoff and during a fire.
What We Do
- ✓New access road construction on ranch and subdivision ground
- ✓Reshaping and regrading existing roads that have gone rutted, flat or soft
- ✓Ditching, crowning and culvert work so the road sheds water instead of channeling it
- ✓Base repair and rebuilding of soft or failing sections
- ✓Widening and turnaround construction for larger vehicles
- ✓Ongoing maintenance grading on a schedule that suits the road and the budget
Emergency Egress and Wildfire Access
In this county access is not only a convenience question. A road that a fire engine cannot get up, or that a line of vehicles cannot get down at the same time, is a safety problem, and it is one that Routt County has been paying attention to. Width, turnarounds, overhead clearance and surface all feed into whether a road works under pressure.
That work also overlaps with fire mitigation and defensible space, because clearing back from a road is both an access improvement and a fuels reduction. If you are doing one, it is usually cheaper to do both while the machine is on site.
HOAs and Shared Roads
If you are on a board or an association trying to work out what your road actually needs, we are happy to walk it with you and put a straight number against the options. Maintenance grading on a sensible cycle is dramatically cheaper than rebuilding a road that has been left, and it is easier to budget for.

Common Questions
Do you take on ongoing road maintenance, or only one-off jobs?
Both. A lot of private roads are better served by scheduled maintenance grading than by waiting until a rebuild is unavoidable, and it is a much easier number for an association to plan around.
Can you improve a road so a fire truck can use it?
We can widen, reshape, build turnarounds and improve the surface and drainage. What the fire district requires for a given road is their call, so the right order is to find out what standard you need to meet, then have us build to it.
Who is responsible for a shared road?
That depends on your deed, covenants or association documents, and it is a legal question rather than one for us. What we can tell you is what the road physically needs and what it will cost to get it there.
How much of a road can you do in a season?
More than most people expect if the work is staged properly and the weather cooperates. The limits here are usually runoff in the spring and frozen ground in the late fall rather than the machine.
