Opening Up Ground
Clearing covers a lot of different jobs that happen to use the same machine. Taking a building envelope out of timber, pulling sagebrush off a pasture, cleaning up beetle-killed stands, opening a fence line or a view corridor, or clearing an overgrown property that has been left alone for a decade.
What they have in common is that the material has to go somewhere, and that is usually the part that gets underestimated.
What We Clear
- ✓Building envelopes and lot clearing for new construction
- ✓Brush, scrub and sagebrush across pasture and ranch ground
- ✓Beetle-kill and standing dead timber removal
- ✓Fence line clearing and access corridors
- ✓Overgrown property cleanup
- ✓Slash handling: piled, hauled off, or chipped where that makes sense
The Material Has to Go Somewhere
Every clearing job produces a volume of woody material that is much larger loose than it looked standing up. The options are piling it for later, hauling it off, or chipping it, and they do not cost the same. Deciding that up front, rather than at the end when it is stacked in the middle of your property, is what keeps a clearing quote honest.
Where hauling is the answer, that is trucking and haul-off.
Clearing and Fire Mitigation Are the Same Machine, Different Reasons
Thinning around a house for defensible space and clearing a lot to build on are closely related work with different goals. If you are already paying to bring equipment onto the property, it is usually worth looking at both at once. See fire mitigation and defensible space.
After the Clearing
Cleared ground is rarely finished ground. Depending on what it is for, the next step is usually rough grading, a building pad, reseeding, or a driveway to reach it.

Common Questions
How much does it cost to clear an acre of land in Colorado?
Per-acre pricing is close to meaningless for this work, because an acre of light sagebrush and an acre of dense standing timber are different jobs by an order of magnitude. Density, tree size, slope, access and what happens to the material all drive it. We price it after walking the ground.
What do I do with the slash after clearing?
Pile it, haul it off, or chip it. Piling is cheapest on the day and leaves you with a fire hazard and a decision to make later. Hauling costs more and the problem is gone. Chipping suits some sites and leaves usable material behind. We will lay out what each one costs on your property.
Do you remove stumps?
Ask us when you call and we will give you a straight answer for your site rather than a blanket claim on a web page. Stump work varies a lot with species, size and what the ground is going to be used for afterwards.
Can you clear in a way that keeps some of the trees?
Yes, and on most properties that is the better outcome. Selective clearing that keeps the good trees and takes the dead, the crowded and the ones in the way is usually what people actually want, even when they ask for the lot to be cleared.
