Park County is big, high and open. Hartsel sits out in the grassland basin of South Park, Lake George is down on US 24 by the mouth of Eleven Mile Canyon, and Guffey is tucked into the hills in the south of the county. Long private roads, scattered parcels and ranch ground are the normal state of things here.
We take work in Park County, and this page explains exactly what that looks like before you call, so nobody wastes a morning. For town-specific details, see Guffey, Lake George and Hartsel.
A Long Way From Our Yard, and We Say So
Dream Ridge is based in Toponas, in Routt County, well to the north of South Park. If you need a small job done quickly in Hartsel or Lake George, a contractor based closer to you will almost always make more sense, and we will tell you that ourselves.
The work that justifies the trip is the bigger kind: a ranch road or a long driveway built properly from the ground up, a clearing contract, or a new build that needs the access, pad and drainage done together. When the machine is on site for long enough, getting it here stops being the number that decides the price.
Batching helps more than anything else. Put every job on the property on one list, and we can do it in one visit instead of several, which at this distance is what turns an awkward price into a sensible one.
Roads and Driveways Across South Park
On open ground, the road is often the whole project. Access across a ranch or a large parcel has to handle snow, spring runoff and heavy vehicles, and a road that is only bladed rather than built will rut and wash out within a season or two.
We build private roads and ranch access with a proper base, crown and ditching, culverts where water crosses, and turnarounds wide enough for a delivery truck or a fire engine. Driveway work follows the same approach on a smaller scale.
Park County handles driveway permits through its Environmental Health office in Fairplay, the same office that runs septic permitting and site evaluations. Check with them early on a new access, because the permit shapes where and how the driveway can meet the road.

Septic in Park County: Not Our Credential
David holds an on-site wastewater installer registration in Routt County. That registration does not carry over to Park County.
In Park County, septic permits and site evaluations go through the county’s Environmental Health office in Fairplay, under the county’s own rules. So we do not quote septic installation here on the strength of our Routt County registration. If a septic system is part of your project, call and tell us about it, and we will be clear about which parts of the job we can and cannot take on.
Timber Edges and Fire
Much of Park County is open grassland, but the timbered country around Guffey and Lake George is another story. In 2002 the Hayman Fire burned more than 138,000 acres across Park, Teller, Jefferson and Douglas Counties, and it is a big part of why defensible space is taken seriously in the forested parts of the county.
Our fire mitigation work follows the zone-by-zone approach: clear the ground closest to the house, break up the fuel that carries fire toward it, and thin the wider stand. On remote properties the access road matters just as much, because an engine that cannot turn around will not come up the drive. We do not publish grant or rebate figures, but we document the work so it can go to whichever program applies.
High, Dry and Short on Season
South Park sits high, and the working season closes early and opens late. Weather can take days out of a schedule at short notice, and at this distance a lost day cannot simply be made up tomorrow. So you will get an honest window for the work, and a call if it moves.
Anything that holds or diverts water is a Colorado water law question before it is an excavation one, and this is headwaters country. The pond excavation page explains why that paperwork comes first.

Common Questions
Do you work in Park County?
Yes, on larger jobs. We are based in Toponas in Routt County, so Park County is travel work for us rather than local service. Roads, clearing, full site packages and several jobs batched into one visit all make sense. A single small job is usually better handled by someone closer.
Can you install a septic system in Park County?
Our installer registration is with Routt County, and septic permits in Park County go through the county’s Environmental Health office under its own rules. We do not quote septic here on the Routt County registration. Tell us about the project and we will be straight about what we can do on it.
Which parts of Park County do you cover?
Guffey, Lake George and Hartsel, and the ground around them. If your property is nearby and the job is a substantial one, it is worth a call.
Do I need a permit for a new driveway in Park County?
Park County’s Environmental Health office handles driveway permits along with septic permits. Contact them early on any new access, since the permit affects where the driveway can meet the road.
