Guffey sits at roughly 8,700 feet in the south end of Park County, out toward Agate and Saddle Mountains, with Colorado 9 running down to Canon City about 33 miles away. It is quiet, spread-out country where most properties come with their own water, their own septic and their own way in.

Access Comes First Out Here

On a rural Guffey parcel, how you get in often decides everything else: where the house can go, how materials arrive, and whether emergency vehicles can reach it. A driveway that works in August and turns to ruts in May is not really a driveway.

Park County requires a driveway cut permit before anyone builds a driveway onto a county or private road, and its Environmental Health office is the one that works with landowners on those permits. We build driveways and private access roads to be graded, drained and wide enough for the trucks that will use them.

High Fire Risk, Even Without National Forest

Park County’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan named Guffey as one of the county’s particularly vulnerable communities. The plan put the Guffey area in a priority zone with moderate to high fuel hazards and high fire risk, even though there is no National Forest there, only scattered BLM land.

That makes fire mitigation one of the more worthwhile trips for us. Clearing around structures, thinning, removing ladder fuels and opening up access for engines can often be combined with driveway or site work into one visit.

Water, Septic and Our Registration

Park County’s own planning notes that infrastructure limits, water and septic are real concerns for Guffey residents. For septic, the permits and site evaluations go through the county’s Environmental Health office. David’s installer registration is with Routt County, so we do not quote septic installation in Guffey on the strength of it.
